Blue Monday

17 Jan

Statistically speaking, today is the most depressing day of the year. This unhappiest of days is known as Blue Monday. The holidays have passed and the weather this time of year tends to be less than ideal.

I’m combating this seasonal depression by working on an extremely colorful installation at school. Over the weekend, I cut and reassembled various colors and types of paper into patterns based on quilt designs. Today, I began to arrange the patterns on the wall. Tomorrow, I am hoping to finish the installation.

Better pictures will be posted at a later date but for now, I snapped a few in progress photos.

Getting started…

The end of day one…

Wow! It looks great. I love the way it migrates all over the space.

Thanks, it started out sort of simple and then I got a little crazy… more craziness to come tomorrow after I get some sleep!

The bold geometrical patterns also go well with the blue grates on the ceiling. Very nicely done.

Thank you again. I’m thinking about putting some blue grate-like things in the actual installation, too. And I actually moved that huge plant to be next to the wall because I think it sort of compliments the chaos of the patterning.

This is awesome! Will it be open to the public?

Hey Tom–thanks! It is open to the public. It’s on the eighth floor at my school, Taik. I am thinking that I might have a small opening for it. I’ll let you know when and where!
