60 years of Marimekko Life – Together
“I only want to bring people together so they can get to know each other and gain something from one another.”
-Armi Ratia, 1969
Marimekko turns sixty years old in 2011. To celebrate, the spring and summer collection was previewed in the company’s original factory building. The building is currently used to sells flowers so decorations for the fashion show were provided in-house. Potted flowers lined the floor of the concrete catwalk and provided a colorful backdrop. Cake, champagne and free Marimekko tote bags topped off the evening.
The Spring 2011 collection has tons of bright floral prints, as well as some reprinted classics from Maija & Kristina Isola and Annika Rimala. All of the models were wearing wigs with a classic black bob and they mostly wore clogs, in various forms. I saw pants with big bows for belts, suspenders, and naturally, tons of tunics and flowing tops. As always, look for bold, vibrant prints this Spring from Marimekko!
My apologies in advance–my photos are so awful, but it was difficult to take decent pictures at the venue.
