A New ‘do

7 Oct

My first Finnish haircut!

With winter around the corner, it might seem nonsensical to opt for a short bob, but I hate blow-drying my hair. It takes too long and to me, it’s not worth the effort. Short, dry hair is better than a long, wet mop!

I went to a salon around the corner from my dorm in Koskela. I’m not sure if my stylist spoke too much English but she understood “bob.” In the States, hairdressers often assume the role of a girlfriend, asking questions about your personal life like where you go to school or what you do, etc. There’s lots of chatting.

This haircut was strictly business. After an hour and a half, she quietly said, “too much hair.” Here are some pictures of the new ‘do. This is what forty euros, no tip, will get you in Finland.

It looks great! My haircutter in Hartford never felt the need for chit chat and I kind of liked it. She was very serious and would just concentrate on her work and I could relax.

I know, I actually think it’s quite nice not to be forced to be social.
