Here are some new images of recent work:
I was very inspired by the Moomin Movie. I recommend this movie–even if you can’t follow the plot!
This building takes after Alvar Aalto’s Finlandia Hall.
An acquaintance posted pictures on facebook of her new bedroom in L.A. and I liked the pictures so much that I painted them. This one has a sketchy Matisse-y feel to me.
Palm trees keep springing up in my paintings. I’ve counted at least five this year alone!
Thinking in Shadow, 2010, watercolor and gouache on paper, 30 x 23 cm.
The title of this painting comes from John Ruskin’s essay, “The Seven Lamps of Architecture:”
And among the first habits that a young architect should learn, is that of thinking in shadow, not looking at a design in its miserably liny skeleton; but conceiving of it as it will be when the dawn lights it, and the dusk leaves it; when its stones will be hot, and its crannies cool; when the lizards will bask on the one and the birds build in the other.
